Dried pod husks of the common bean plant, cream to pale beige in colour, brittle and papery once dried and separated from the seeds.

Herkomst

Mesoamerica; the common bean has been cultivated for more than seven thousand years and is now grown worldwide.

Traditioneel gebruik

In classical European herbalism the dried pod shells (fructus phaseoli sine semine) are used as a mild kidney-supporting ingredient in tea blends.

Only the empty pod is used — the seeds themselves are a food crop, not a tea herb.
